Q. I am bilingual, therefore I can translate this. All you have to do is certify. How much do you charge for something like that?
 
A. Bilingualism does not make the professional translator. Although many people speak two or more languages fluently, trained translators are writers and educated in the intricacies of linguistic nuance. Translators do not normally certify other people’s translations. By the way, at Hungarian Translation Services certification is included in the translation fee.

Q. I earned a degree in nursing in Hungary. How can I continue my studies and work in healthcare and have my diploma recognized in the U.S.?
 
A. You need to have your foreign credentials translated by a certified translator. The carefully translated documents will be sent to one of many evaluation services, where your degrees will be compared to the equivalents in the U.S. You may be asked to obtain a new set of transcripts from your degree-awarding institutions. Call the Hungarian Translation Services in New York City for more specifics.

Q. My father was born in Hungary, and left in 1956. I was told at the Hungarian consulate that I am eligible for Hungarian citizenship documentation, and need to have my birth certificate translated into Hungarian. I was born in Argentina, and the consul will not certify the translation of Spanish documents. How can I get a certified Hungarian translation of my Spanish document?
 
A. When in need of certified documentation, one must apply the laws of the country where the documents are to be used. A Hungarian consul may certify translations of languages in which he/she has proficiency language examinations. If he/she is not qualified, translations must be done in Hungary by the Hungarian Translation and Attestation Office. The Hungarian Translation Services has a long-standing relationship with this body, and can therefore facilitate document processing.

K. Kétnyelvű vagyok, ezért ezt le tudom fordítani. Önnek csak hitelesítenie kell. Az mennyibe kerülne?
 
F. Önmagában a kétnyelvűségtől nem lesz valaki hivatásos fordító. Bár sokan beszélnek két vagy több nyelvet folyékonyan, a képzett fordítók írók és megtanulták a nyelvészet finomságainak bonyolultságát. A fordítók általában nem hitelesítik mások fordításait. A Hungarian Translation Services-nél a dokumentumhitelesítés ugyanakkor ingyenes szolgáltatás.

K. Ápolónői végzettségem van Magyarországról. Hogyan tanulhatnék és dolgozhatnék tovább az egészségügy területén, és az USA-ban hogyan érvényesíttethetem a diplomám?
 
F. A magyarországi leckekönyveket és diplomákat hivatalosan le kell fordítani. A hiteles fordítást úgynevezett diplomahonosító irodába kell elküldeni, ahol mintegy “beleillesztik” az USA-beli iskolarendszerbe. K. Az édesapám Magyarországon született, és 1956-ban hagyta el az országot. A magyar konzulátuson azt mondták, hogy jogosult lehetek magyar állampolgárság igazolására, és a születési kivonatom le kell fordíttatni. F. Amikor hiteles dokumentumokra van szükség, mindig annak az országnak a törvényeit kell alkalmazni, ahol a dokumentumokat felhasználják. Magyar konzul azokon a nyelveken hitelesíthet fordításokat, amelyekből nyelvvizsgája van. Ha nincs spanyol nyelvvizsgája, akkor csak a magyarországi Fordító- és Fordításhitelesítő Iroda fordítását fogadják el.
